DDA40X Centennial #6900
Kenefick Park
Omaha, NE

Centennial Locomotive #6900

Centennial #6900 on display at the new Kenefick Park, located in Omaha, Nebraska. Kenefick park is on the north side of I-80 just as you cross into Nebraska from Iowa. It has a very dramatic location on the side of the river bluff. It is especially neat at night when it is lit up.

Kenefick park used to be located downtown along Abbott Drive. That area was redeveloped in 2002, so the locomotives were moved temporarily to the Western Heritage Museum. The Union Pacific then found the new location behind the Lauritzen Gardens. There is no access to the railroad display from I-80, nor is there any place to stop to take photos. You can, however, visit the Lauritzen Gardens, park in the their parking lot, and walk to the railroad display. Parked on the other side of the Centennial is Big Boy #4023.

John Kenefick retired as UPRR Chairman and CEO in 1986, and is still active in the Omaha community when the park was dedicated in 2006.
