Apollo 9 command module on display at the San Diego Air & Space
Museum in the San Diego Balboa Park museum complex. The Apollo 9 mission
featured the first flight of the Lunar Excursion Module. The LEM was
extensively tested in low Earth orbit. This mission paved the way for
Apollo 10, which would take the LEM to the moon for a dress rehearsal of
the moon landing.
This spacecraft was located at the Michigan Space & Science Center on
the grounds of Jackson Community College for many years. The Michigan
museum closed in 2003. Most of the artifacts from the museum went to
the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, however, the Apollo 9 spacecraft was sent to San
Diego.
