Ericsson Neighborhood Sign   Ericsson

The Ericsson neighborhood is named for John Ericsson, the Swedish engineer who designed and built the USS Monitor ironclad ship for the US Navy during the Civil War. Ericsson joined with Standish to form a single neighborhood organization that spans the border between the Powderhorn Park and Nokomis communities.

Field Regina Northrop Neighborhood Sign   Field / Regina / Northrop

The neighborhoods of Field, Regina, and Northrop joined to form a single neighborhood organization. Field is named after the Field Community School. The school is named after popular 19th century writer and humorist Eugen Field. Regina is named after the former Regina parochial school. Northrop is named after Northrop Elementary School. The school is named after Cyrus Northrop, the second and longest serving president of the University of Minnesota.

HPDL Neighborhood Sign   HPDL (Hale, Page, Diamond Lake)

Hale, Page, and Diamond Lake joined to form the HPDL neighborhood organization. Hale is named after Nathan Hale, the Revolutionary War hero who stated that he regretted having but one life to give for his nation as he was being executed by the British. Page is named after Page Elementary School, which is named in honor of Walter Hines Page. Page was a journalist, publisher, and rose to fame as the US ambassador to the UK during World War 1. Diamond Lake is named after Diamond Lake located in the northwest corner of the neighborhood.

Nokomis East Neighborhood Sign   Nokomis East (Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park, Wenonah)

The neighborhoods of Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park, and Wenonah joined to form the Nokomis East neighborhood organization. Keewaydin, Minnehaha, and Wenonah all took their name from an Ojibwe legend made famous in Longfellow's poem The Song of Hiawatha. Morris Park is named after Mary Morris, daughter of Franklin Steele, the first settler of the city of Saint Anthony (now part of Minneapolis).
