The Como neighborhood is named after Como Avenue. Como Avenue is named after Lake Como, a popular recreation area in northern Italy. There is also a Como neighborhood in nearby Saint Paul. |

Marcy-Holmes is named in honor of two 19th century Americans William Marcy and Oliver Wendell Holmes. Marcy was a statesman and served as Secretary of State. Holmes was a poet and novelist. |

Nicollet Island/East Bank
The Nicollet Island and East Bank neighborhood is named after their two geographic locations, Nicollet Island and the East Bank area, both features connected to the Mississippi River. Nicollet Island is named after French explorer Joseph Nicollet, who wrote an early book on the upper Mississippi River. This neighborhood is not signed as of the spring of 2008. |

Prospect Park East River Road
The Prospect Park East River Road neighborhood was platted as the Prospect Park addition in 1885. The name was given by the developer for reasons that have been lost to history. East River Road is the parkway that runs along the east side of the Mississippi River. |

Dinkytown, located near the University of Minnesota campus, is not an official neighborhood. Rather, it is a commercial district. The origins of the name have been lost to history. |

Old Saint Anthony
Old Saint Anthony is a historical designation and is not an official neighborhood. The sign commemorates the former city of Saint Anthony, which was founded on the north side of the Mississippi River near Saint Anthony Falls. The city of Saint Anthony merged with Minneapolis in 1872. |
